Most phones with NFC sold in India today sit above roughly 15,000 rupees, and at that level the feature is close to universal. Every iPhone since the iPhone 6 (2014) has it. Below that it becomes a model-by-model lottery, which is why the same brand can have one phone with NFC and another without. This guide maps where NFC phones sit in the Indian market, brand by brand and price band by price band. If you first want the chip itself explained, start with what NFC in a mobile phone means; this page assumes you just want to know which phones have it.
The short answer
- Price band predicts NFC better than brand: every flagship, nearly everything above 20,000, most of the 15,000 to 20,000 band, rarely under 12,000.
- Every iPhone from the 6 onward has NFC and it is always on; there is no switch to find.
- The only reliable source is the brand's India spec page, Connectivity row. Global reviews describe a different variant.
- No NFC? The printed QR on a card still works on every phone with a camera.
Which phones have NFC in India?
The share of NFC supported phones in India follows price more than brand. Mobile phones with NFC now start around the 13,000 to 15,000 rupee mark in most brand line-ups. The broad brand picture, current as of mid-2026:
| Group | Brands and series | NFC |
|---|---|---|
| Always | iPhone (2014 onward), Google Pixel, Samsung Galaxy S, Z and Note, nearly all OnePlus | Yes |
| Usually above mid-range | iQOO, Vivo, Oppo, Motorola on most models above 18,000 to 20,000 | Yes on most |
| Mixed, check the exact model | Samsung Galaxy A and M, Redmi Note, Realme number series, Poco | Partial |
| Rarely | Entry-level phones under 10,000 to 12,000 from any brand | No on most |
These are patterns, and every row has exceptions. The one reliable source is the phone's official India spec page: NFC is listed under Connectivity, next to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. If the spec page does not mention NFC at all, the phone does not have it, though a card from the NFC cards range still works on it through the printed QR code. We deliberately do not print an NFC phones list of models here; line-ups in India change monthly, and a list written today misleads someone reading it in six months.
Do all Android phones have NFC?
No. Android supports NFC as a platform, but the chip is a hardware choice each manufacturer makes per model. Android phones with NFC dominate above the mid-range, while budget models routinely drop the chip to save cost; it is one of the first features cut when a phone is built to a low price. There is also a regional twist: the same model name can ship with NFC in Europe and without it in India, because brands configure variants per market. Do not rely on a global review or an international spec sheet for the Indian variant. If you are wondering how this chip relates to RFID, same family, very different range, the split is explained in RFID vs NFC.
Do Samsung phones have NFC?
Every Galaxy S, Z and Note model has NFC, so at the premium end the answer is simply yes. Samsung phones with NFC get patchier in the Galaxy A and M series: the higher A-series models generally include it, while the cheaper A and M models often skip it in the Indian variant. Because the A-series is Samsung's biggest seller in India, this is where most of the confusion lives. Search the exact model number plus "specifications" on Samsung India's site and read the Connectivity row; it takes thirty seconds and settles it.
Do iPhones have NFC, and can iPhone read NFC cards?
Yes on both. Every iPhone from the iPhone 6 onward has NFC hardware. Models from the iPhone XR and XS onward also read NFC tags in the background: hold the top edge of the phone against the card and the profile link appears as a banner, tap it and the profile opens in Safari. On older models (7, 8, X) a scan works through the Control Centre NFC Tag Reader. If you searched "can iphone read nfc cards india" wondering whether the Indian variant is different, it is not: the NFC hardware is identical worldwide and nothing about it is region-locked. If a tap is not working on a recent iPhone, the cause is almost always where the tag sits against the top edge; settings are rarely involved. The other common causes are in the NFC card troubleshooting guide.
How to enable NFC on iPhone: there is nothing to switch on
- NFC on iPhone is always on. The only iPhone NFC settings that exist are indirect: Low Power Mode leaves it working, a locked phone lying face-down may not read a tag until you pick it up, and a thick metal case can block the read entirely.
- iPhone 7, 8 or X: add the NFC Tag Reader control to Control Centre and tap it before scanning. Newer models need nothing at all.
Are there NFC phones under 20000?
Yes, plenty. Most brands now offer several models in the 15,000 to 20,000 rupee band with the chip, and a few dip below 15,000. It stops being dependable under about 13,000, where most models leave it out. Filter any major retailer or spec site by "NFC" for the current picture, then confirm on the brand's own India spec page before buying.
How do I know if my current phone has it?
Fastest check on Android: search "NFC" inside the Settings app. If a toggle appears, you have it. Spec pages and retailer filters label NFC enabled phones under Connectivity if you are checking before a purchase. For the exact Settings path on Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo and Motorola, and how to switch it on, see the guide to enabling NFC on Android.
What if my phone does not have NFC?
What still works on every phone
- UPI, which runs on QR codes and mobile numbers
- Scanning the QR printed on every ProfileTap card
- Creating and sharing your own digital card, which lives online, so the handset does not matter
What you lose without the chip
- Tap-to-pay at a contactless card machine
- Tap-to-share from an NFC card
- Add-on stickers sold as NFC for non NFC phones exist, but cannot add payment and are rarely worth the hassle
This is also why serious digital business cards carry both technologies: NFC for the phones that tap, and a printed QR code for the ones that do not. Every NFC business card from ProfileTap also carries a QR code, so it works whether the other person's phone made this list or not.
